LEON BALOGUN was a star performer during a busy weekend for Albion loanees across Europe.

Balogun made his debut for Wigan in a 2-2 draw at high-flying Cardiff.

And Wigan manager Paul Cook was delighted with the defender’s first start.

He said: “Leon is excellent. He’s composed, he sees things a lot more quickly and senses danger. His reading of the game is also excellent.”

Club-mate Jan Mlakar was an unused substitute for the Latics.

Christian Walton kept his 11th clean sheet of the season in a 2-0 win away at Charlton.

Blackburn’s Walton thwarted Lyle Taylor, Josh Cullen and former Albion striker Tomer Hemed, which earned him a place in the EFL’s team of the week.

Rovers boss Tony Mowbray says Walton has responded superbly to a vote of confidence.

Mowbray revealed Albion had asked Blackburn in January if they still wanted Walton.

He said: “He’s had some spells where questions have been asked and yet in this window, we had a moment where Brighton phoned and asked what we were doing with him?

“Are you sending him back or keeping him? So I sat him down and told him that he is going to be our goalkeeper and that I have total faith in him.

“I think that’s what he needed really, to know that the manager was there supporting him.

“I’ve never been one to chop and change my goalkeepers all the time.

“They’re allowed to make mistakes and let soft goals go in, but as long as they have got the character and a big personality to keep making saves and coming for crosses and be the goalkeeper we want them to be.”

Matt Clarke played the whole 90 minutes as Derby drew 1-1 against Huddersfield at Pride Park.

Anthony Knockaert came back into the side as Fulham’s automatic promotion push was dented with a 3-0 loss at Craven Cottage against bottom place Barnsley.

Ben White and Leeds ended their three-match winless run with a 1-0 victory at Elland Road against Bristol City.

White has now kept 13 clean sheets this season in the Championship out of a possible 33.

Jayson Molumby played the full 90 minutes as Millwall picked up a valuable 1-0 win away at Preston to move within four points of the play-off places.

The Argus:

Max Sanders opened the scoring for Wimbledon as they drew 2-2 away at League One leaders Rotherham.

Sanders’ strike from distance beat Daniel Iversen in windy conditions as it flew into a top corner.

Wimbledon manager Glynn Hodges revealed he had urged his side to shoot from distance with the conditions.

He said: “We went out and said it was windy so pull the trigger and Max did and we scored.”

Tom McGill was an unused substitute for Crawley as they drew 0-0 at home to Carlisle.

Carl Rushworth made a wonder save but it was not enough to keep a clean sheet as Worthing lost to fellow title challengers Folkestone 1-0 at Woodside Road.

Rushworth made the save in the first half as he acrobatically tipped Matt Everitt’s header from a free-kick onto the roof of the net.

The save was a big hit on social media with Seagulls’ No.1 Maty Ryan retweeting it and calling it a ‘worldie’.

Fynn Talley played the full 90 as Burgess Hill won 4-2 against Three Bridges.

Percy Tau came off the bench and got an assist in the 90th minute to help Club Brugge to a 2-1 win over Waasland-Beveren.

Tudor Baluta watched from the bench as Den Haag lost 3-0 at home to PSV Eindhoven.

Florin Andone was an unused substitute for Galatasaray in a 1-0 win over Yeni Malatyaspor.

Leo Ostigard played the full game and Victor Gykores 62 minutes as St Pauli drew 0-0 at home against Dynamo Dresden. Bojan Radulovic played 83 minutes as Deportivo Alaves B drew 0-0 against Barakaldo.
