Leandro Trossard has backed his former Genk team-mate Sander Berge to thrive in the Premier League.

But Trossard hopes Berge only shows his class after Albion play Sheffield United on Saturday.

Trossard played with the Norway international at Genk for two years between 2017 and 2019, in which time they won the Belgium Pro League title and Super Cup.

Berge, who turned 22 last week, joined the Blades in January for a club-record £22million fee.

He was the second of Trossard’s former team-mates to make the move to the Premier League in the window following striker Mbwana Samatta’s switch to Aston Villa.

Trossard and Berge will be on opposite sides on Saturday at Bramall Lane and Albion’s livewire is wary of his midfield rival.

He said: “He is a really talented player and I think he will do well in the Premier League and also for them. It is a big transfer.

“I am very pleased for him and I am looking forward to playing against him.”

But Trossard added: “He is a really talented player so, hopefully, he won’t be on against us.”

Sheffield United are sixth in the table and just two points off the top four but Trossard hopes Albion can take confidence from draws against West Ham and Watford into the game against the Blades.

He said: “We only look at ourselves and only think you can win games.

“I think we have done well in our last two games against West Ham and Watford.

“It is not easy if you are 1-0 or 2-0 down at half-time in the Premier League and you can still react, so we have to keep that in mind and take it into the next game.”
