Graham Potter believes Albion are probably at least ten points from securing safety.

But he is not wasting time working out the permutations as his side go into their final 12 fixtures.

The Seagulls chase a first win of 2020 as they go to high-flying Sheffield United today.

Failure to win any of four recent games against fellow strugglers has left Albion on 27 points, three clear of 18th place.

Albion stayed up with 36 points last term, which was two more than 18th-placed Cardiff City.

Potter, who was not with Albion last season, said: “I don’t worry myself about that actual number.

“They got 36 last year and I think we will need more than that. That would be my guess.

“But we have just got to focus on the next game, try to win and move on.”

Potter expects tough surroundings at Bramall Lane, where United have taken ten points from their last five games.

He said: “You are going to a place that is very hostile.

“Bramall Lane is very hostile. They get behind their team very well and Sheffield United give them something to get involved with because they have done so well this season.

“It is a tough game for us but you always go with a bit of optimism and a bit of respect for the opposition.”
