Neal Maupay scored against a team who tried to sign him last summer.

Chris Wilder admitted he was disappointed to concede to a player he wanted to take from Brentford ahead of Sheffield United's return to the top flight.

Maupay instead joined the Seagulls and nipped in sharply to head home after Adam Webster headed down an Aaron Mooy free-kick.

Wilder was generally happy with his side’s efforts as they drew 1-1 with Albion.

The Sheffield United boss said: “You can’t do anything about when they have got five or six 6ft 4in lads.

“You give a free-kick away and you have got Aaron Mooy on the pitch, who is technically a brilliant player.

“He puts it into an area where you have got, I don’t know who it was – Dan Burn or Dunk or Duffy or Glenn Murray.

“You can’t coach against that but you can coach against the second ball.

“We were a little bit disappointed Maupay got a run on us and, to be fair, he is somebody we obviously tried to get in the summer.

“I have a lot of admiration for him and have seen him play in the Championship as well. He will be delighted with his goal.”
