Keeper Maty Ryan says Albion can take plenty of positives from their performance in the 0-0 draw against Wolves.

Ryan kept his sixth shut-out of the season and Albion’s first in eight games.

The clean sheet is all the more creditable when you consider Wolves have only failed to score in two home games this season, against Leicester in the Premier League and Manchester United in the FA Cup.

Ryan highlighted plus points Albion could take away from the game.

He said: “There are plenty of positives – we fought hard, fought well, we were disciplined and professional.

“We were solid defensively and I always like it when we can shore things up at the back.

“When days happen where you don’t score but you don’t concede at the back either, you can still get something from the game. It was nice to get a point.”

With nine matches left of the season Ryan stressed it is vital Albion continue to show the same tenacity in every game.

He said: “It is always the first point when preparing for a match. You have to show the competitiveness and you want it more than the opposition, more so than any other aspect of the game.

“The rest of it flows off that competitive level.

“If you are in for the fight, you can win your battles and you can win more of your individual duels across the whole 90 minutes.

“Quite often the team that does that is going to win the game.

“As a basis, that is where we need to start and focus on every game and then let everything else come into it after that.”

Albion fans finally got to see their first glimpse of one of their deadline day signings.

Alexis Mac Allister was named in the squad for the first time after Albion cut his loan short at Boca Juniors after they secured his work permit.

The 21-year-old Argentinian came on with ten minutes left to replace Solly March.

Ryan felt it was promising start from Mac Allister.

He said: “He was bright when he came on.

“His delivery around set-pieces was good as well, he asked questions of their defence.

“He got on the ball and showed a nice bit of composure, calmness and he picked out his passes well.

“There are some really good signs moving forward.”

Albion now face nine games to secure survival with eight of them against sides above them.

Asked if that could work in Albion’s favour, Ryan said: “You have to have that outlook with every game we play.

“We have had success against top teams this season but, at the end of the day, you need to get points.

“You saw Watford last weekend beat Liverpool.

“Every point, whoever it comes against is important, so it was nice we made a little step with the draw but we have got to continue working hard in order to find those three points when they are on offer.

“Next week we are back at home so there is an opportunity to do that and we shall look forward to taking momentum from this performance into that game.

“We need to ride that wave and continue to learn, grow and get better. “
