JAYSON MOLUMBY starred for Millwall in a 3-0 win away to Nottingham Forest to cap off an excellent week for the Irishman.

The 20-year-old midfielder signed a new three-and-a-half-year deal with the Seagulls on Wednesday to take his stay at the club up until 2023.

On Friday Millwall kicked off the weekend’s action in the Championship as they travelled to promotion-chasing Nottingham Forest.

In the 26th minute, with Millwall already 1-0 up through Matt Smith, Molumby got on the end of a cross from the left flank and side-footed the ball into the net.

Molumby wheeled away in celebration and busted out some interesting dance moves for what he thought for his first senior goal.

However, with the game live on Sky Sports, replays showed that Molumby’s shot had clipped Smith’s foot before hitting the net, so the goal was given to the striker.

Smith went on to complete his hat-trick.

Molumby admitted he was gutted not to have the goal to his name after such a sweet strike.

He said: “He’s scored enough goals throughout his career, so I thought it was only fair he gave me this one – but it wasn’t meant to be.”

“It’s Millwall down to a tee – we just work hard for each other.

“Our goal from the start was not to let them settle and put them under pressure.

“Physically we got the better of them and won the battles.”

Albion kept a clean sheet over the weekend at Wolves, and three of their loan defenders - Ben White, Matt Clarke and Leon Balogun - followed suit.

White and Leeds secured their fifth shutout in a row with a 2-0 win over Huddersfield as they moved a point clear at the top of the Championship.

White had to move into defensive midfield with Kalvin Philips missing the game through injury.

Clarke kept his seventh clean sheet of the season as Derby bounced back from their 3-0 defeat in the FA Cup to Manchester United with a 3-0 win at Pride Park against ten-man Blackburn Rovers on Sunday.

Seagulls loanee Christian Walton conceded three goals as Blackburn stayed three points off the play-offs.

Walton has been nominated for the PFA’s Bristol Street Motors Player of the Month Award for February.

Centre-half Balogun made it four clean sheet in a row as Wigan drew 0-0 with Luton. Jan Mlakar was again an unused sub for the Latics.
