Premier League clubs will join together today determined to finish their season.

But Paul Barber is adamant they will go into a meeting via video link with health and safety at the top of their thoughts.

Barber says all options of completing the 2019-20 campaign will be looked at but only when the time is right.

Action is suspended until the end of April but that is likely to be extended today.

As is customary, Albion chairman Tony Bloom and Barber, who is both his deputy and the club’s chief executive, will represent the Seagulls among their peers.

Barber said: “I think you go into every season expecting to be able to complete it. We’re in, however, unprecedented times.

“The uncertainty is very difficult to deal with, not just on a business level, a sporting level but on a personal level.

“As much as we want to complete the season and it’s still our intention and we’ll look at every option we can to do that, I think we also are realistic and increasingly pragmatic about the challenges we’re all facing – and the country is facing.

“This is a national emergency and we can’t be blind to that.

“But we also know that football plays a massive part in people’s lives and the sooner we can play again, hopefully we can lift the very difficult times that we’re currently experiencing.

“At the moment we can’t really think about that too much.

“We cannot simply return to play football if it’s not safe to do so.

“That’s absolutely out of the question.”

He added: “Health is the priority. But we are also very cognisant of the fact that people are losing their jobs and businesses are going out of business.

“We want to do everything we can to keep our business whole, intact, to keep people employed and keep paying them for as long as we can.”

Albion have confirmed a second member of their squad has contracted Covid-19. Both players are reported to be recovering well.
