Aaron Connolly is set to team up again with the Irish boss who gave him a new role.
Stephen Kenny has taken over from Mick McCarthy in charge of the Republic’s senior team.
Kenny was Connolly’s international boss with the under-21s and used the Albion striker wide on the left.
He said of Connolly at the time: “He’s so quick, he carries the ball, he’s exciting, his low centre of gravity.”
Connolly is currently in rehab after surgery on an ankle injury.
The change could also help Jayson Molumby’s progress into the senior set-up.
Molumby, the Albion midfielder currently on loan at Millwall, captained the Irish 21s under Kenny.
The change also affects senior Irish defender Shane Duffy.
Kenny was the Longford manager when the Irish club and Micky Adams’ Albion were involved in a mass brawl during a pre-season friendly in 2001.
His current management team includes former Albion midfielder Keith Andrews.
