Cricket bosses have put The Hundred on hold until 2021.

The competition was due to have launched this season.

The Southern Brave women’s team were set to be based at Hove and the 1st Central County Ground would have hosted the women’s final.

It has now been put back a year due to what the ECB describe as “operational challenges” resulting from the Covid-19 crisis.

They include social distancing rules, international travel restrictions and the fact many staff members at host venues are on furlough leave.

The ECB said an option of playing behind closed doors was dismissed as it “directly contradicts the competition’s goal to attract a wider audience”.
