Glenn Murray says he feels for players running out of contract in football’s summer of doubt.

But he is relieved he managed to extend for a year earlier this season.

Action will continue beyond June 30 if the Premier League can resume when Covid-19 lockdown laws are eased.

That means some players’ contracts might have to be extended to allow them to complete the season – if they are willing to do so.

Ezequiel Schelotto is among those out of contract next month.

He is keen to stay with Albion but has also expressed a wish to play in his native Argentina before hanging up his boots.

The uncertainty such players face has been increased with the season in limbo.

Murray said: “I really do feel for those guys. I was nearly one of those guys but we got something sorted at the end of January this year.

“I have had this conversation many times with my wife.

“That really could have been the end of my career. Looking around for a club at 37 would have been difficult so I feel for those guys.

“But the game will continue, it is just when. If we continue our games their contracts will be lengthened and then hopefully it will come back to a pattern.

“All teams need players and want better players and hopefully they can sort themselves out.”
