Paul Hinshelwood admits his was a lone voice in the Torquay United changing room when he heard the second round draw for the FA Cup.

Now the former Albion defender will be hoping the Seagulls can see off Cheltenham tomorrow and clinch a tie with his present club.

Hinshelwood, 20, was released by Albion in the summer and is now part of a Torquay club flying high in the Conference.

The Cup draw was made straight after the Gulls humbled League One outfit Yeovil 4-1 in the first round and Hinshelwood revealed what went on behind the scenes.

He said: "To be honest, the lads wanted a team like Barrow or something.

"All of a sudden I heard Cheltenham called out and I knew Brighton had them so I've gone Yeah, get in there'.

"The lads were wondering what I was on about but I was loving it.

"I hope Brighton get through. I still come down as much as I can to see some of the lads."

Hinshelwood made four early-season appearances and scored in his second game, a 5-2 win at Kidderminster, but the side's good current run has made it impossible for him to force his way back in.

He said: "I suppose you would sooner be like that than being part of a losing team.

"We're winning and that's the main thing.

"The Yeovil game was unbelievable. We expected to win, we fancied ourselves but I don't think we fancied 4-1.

"I think people are starting to recognise what we're doing down there now.

"We try and play football where we can but in the right areas.

"We aren't going to try and play football in our own half.

"First things first, you defend. What ever happens after that happens."
