Adam El-Abd today called on the Albion defenders to contribute more goals.
He started the ball rolling by heading the Seagulls into an early lead from a Dean Cox corner in Tuesday's 2-1 victory over Cheltenham in the FA Cup first round replay at Withdean.
It was the first goal by an Albion defender since El-Abd also scored with a late header in the Carling Cup at Southend in September last season.
El-Abd, switched to centre half last night in place of hernia victim Tommy Elphick, said: "Is it that long ago? I did not know that.
"It surprises me that it has been such a long time and hopefully it is not as long before the next one, because if we are going to be contending this year then we need to chip in.
"It's a team effort. We cannot just rely on Foz (Nicky Forster) and Bas (Savage) and Hammo (Dean Hammond) to bang them in every week. We need to share them among the squad.
"We have been practising a lot of set- pieces on the training ground and the gaffer has been a little disappointed in the lack of goals contributed by defenders.
"This is a start. The four of us can contribute to the team going forward but our livelihood is not to concede goals and anything else is a bonus."
Hammond's second half penalty, his fifth goal of the season and fourth from the spot, booked a second round visit to Torquay on December 1 after Steven Gillespie levelled for Cheltenham two minutes earlier.
El-Abd admitted "We made hard work of it but we are happy because we are in the hat for the next round."
