Albion will take no chances as they up the pace in training ahead of the Premier League restart.

But there is growing excitement about a return to action.

Several players uploaded photos from training sessions at Lancing to social media accounts over the weekend as they got back to something like the old routine.

The upbeat mood was helped when stats from 1,130 Covid-19 tests in the Premier League conducted on Thursday and Friday showed no positive results.

Government have officially given the go-ahead for elite sport to take place from today, albeit behind closed doors.

But strict guidelines remain in place at training, including a limit of just 15 minutes of contact work per session.

Albion chief executive Paul Barber said: “Everybody is being sensible, practical and cautious all at the same time, while realising larger groups, a dozen players getting closer and closer, increases the risk.

"We all know that, we have understood that.

“The protocols are designed to limit that risk and minimise it as far as possible.

"The closer you get to match play, they will want to step up to matches and behind closed doors warm-up games.

“Whether that is in-house or whether we are going to be allowed to play one or two friendlies, it remains to be seen.

“Each day of each week that goes by towards June 20, we will be looking to get as close to match fitness as possible.”

Albion return to action at home to Arsenal later this month.
