Mikel Arteta is pleased Arsenal can make a quick return to action at the Amex.

But he knows he will have personnel issues for the match against Albion.

Granit Xhaka and Pablo Mari look set to miss the fixture due to injuries suffered in the midweek 3-0 defeat at Manchester City, though Arteta was not prepared to confirm that.

It is believed that both men could be out for the rest of the season.

David Luiz definitely misses out through suspension.

And Arteta did not really shed any light on the mystery of Mesut Ozil’s absence from their 20-man squad at the Etihad.

Arsenal returned to work today with sights set on putting things right against the Seagulls.

Arteta said: “Every time you lose a football game you want a revenge straight away.

“That is what we want. Myself, the staff and the players.

“We need to see how many players we have fit for the game.

“It was a big hit losing three players in key areas where at the moment we are very short.

“We have to adapt. We are going to be playing every three days with the schedule that the Premier League has given us today so it is going to be a challenge.”

Arsenal had not previously lost under Arteta since his first match in charge, when Tariq Lamptey went on as sub and helped Chelsea to a come-from-behind 2-1 success at the Emirates.

Ozil was key in the Gunners dominating the first half that day and Arteta pointed out the German had appeared for him in every match prior to the City trip.

There remains some doubt as to what roles, if any, Ozil and Nicolas Pepe, who was an unused sub at City, will play at the Amex.

Arteta said of Ozil: "I've been very open with Mesut from day one. Since I joined I think that he was fit and he was willing and he wanted to perform at the level that he can do. He's played every game with me.

"The moment I see he is ready again to do that, I will treat him like anybody else. I've been more than fair with him and I think he has responded in many games the way I want and that's it.

"He was very well with me. There were no issues at all.

"My conversations with Mesut will remain between me and him. What I can tell you is that it was a completely fine, honest and clear conversation. That's it."

Early exits for Xhaka and Pablo Mari followed by two blunders and a red card offence by sub David Luiz left Arsenal on the rocks against the outgoing champions.

Arteta is keen for that defeat not to upset the momentum Arsenal had been building before the Premier League was halted.

He said: “Emotionally it is very difficult to delete it but it is what we have to do.

“It was a very accidental game, right from the start when we lost Granit straight away, losing Pablo.

“Then the way we conceded the first and the second goals.

“Against this type of opposition, this makes life almost impossible.

“But there are things to learn, obviously.

“As well we have to be open and analyse the game as it went.”

David Luiz will not be at the Amex and Arteta was asked whether he had played his last game for the club.

He replied: “I don’t know. He is very open and he is a man, he is a leader and I was sure how was going to speak in front of everybody.

“He was very direct. That is what I value from him.

“That is what I like from him. We need to be fair to him.

“Me personally, I am going to defend him with everything I have because I believe in him.

“He has shown me a lot of times in this time he has been here and his career speaks for itself.”
