Graham Potter says his Premier League rookies can go from strength to strength after a moment of magic at the Amex.

But he has played down any suggestions of an inspired substitution or two to set up the 2-1 success over Arsenal.

Front pair Aaron Connolly, who went on as sub, and Neal Maupay combined for the latter to score the goal which sent Albion five points clear of the Premier League relegation places.

They were supplied by a pass from Alexis Mac Allister, whose long-awaited home debut came off the bench and lasted just three minutes but was memorable nonetheless.

It was a stunning move to secure the Seagulls’ first win in 11 games.

Potter said: “They (Maupay and Connolly) are a good pair.

“When they are working well for each other, they really complement each other.

“I thought Aaron came on and really worked for the team.

“He is a young player adapting to the Premier League.

“So is Neal, so will be Alexis, but they have got quality and they can help us in the next eight games and they can help us going forward as well.”

The creative Mac Allister went on for an exhausted Yves Bissouma as Albion’s fifth change.

But Potter said it was not necessarily in a quest to win the game.

He added: “Alexis can do both sides of the game and Yves Bissouma had run himself onto the ground.

“I wouldn’t say it was necessarily me being so clever.

“It was more just reacting to what I am seeing on the pitch which is that Yves needed to go off.

“We had already put Dale (Stephens) on and Alexis can play on that left side.

“We know if something falls to him, he can find a forward pass, which he did.

“It was a great goal and nice to score from open play.”
