Albion overcame a dreadful penalty record to win the League One title.

They wasted more spot kicks than they scored but still secured top spot ahead of Sothampton (where Chris Wood had a penalty saved) with four games to go.

Neal Maupay’s disappointment at Leicester means they have suffered at least one spot-kick failure in every subsequent campaign.

Their record since moving to the Amex is 48 conversions from 62 attempts.

Glenn Murray leads the way with 12 goals from the spot since rejoining the club.

Tomer Hemed scored 11 penalties and Ashley Barnes seven.

David Lopez left the Amex with a 100% record, scoring five out of five.

Jake Forster Caskey converted three out of three, all in the League Cup.

Craig Mackail-Smith and Adrian Colunga scored two apiece, which is also Pascal Gross's tally so far.

There was one penalty each for Vicente, Chris O’Grady, Stephen Dobbie and, so far, Maupay.

The vast majority of the penalty failures since 2011, and indeed going back before then, have seen shots saved rather than miss the target.

But Leo Ulloa and O’Grady have both blazed high and not so handsome.

Emiliano Martinez might have had the chance to, like Schmeichel, repeat history had Martin Atkinson pointed to the spot last Saturday.

Arsenal’s substitute goalkeeper saved from Hemed at Molineux in 2015 when on loan with Wolves.

Albion dropped two points that day and have not managed to win any of the games in which they failed with penalties during the Amex area.

Now winning despite missing penalties is something they DID manage back in that 2010-11 campaign!
