Jason Gillespie is preparing to return to Hove after county cricket was given the green light.

Action will resume from August 1 although no details in terms of formats to be played or fixture lists have yet been decided.

Gillespie spent pre-season with Sussex in South Africa and was in Hove briefly.

He returned to Australia when it became clear the season would not start in April due to coronavirus.

The Sussex head coach has since been on furlough, along with players and most off-field staff.

Monday’s ECB announcement appears to clear the way for him to return for a shortened season.

He told The Argus: “I’m chatting to the club over the next few days. My intention is to come over.”

Five Sussex players have been training with England and Ollie Robinson could make his Test debut in the series against West Indies.

Sussex today revealed plans for players to return to training.
