Steven Alzate’s debut Premier League season is over.
The midfielder has gone in for delayed surgery on a groin problem.
He has not played since before lockdown and had an operation postponed.
Graham Potter recently revealed Alzate had struggled at training and yesterday confirmed surgery was taking place.
The Seagulls boss is expected to make changes tomorrow at St Mary’s, where Southampton beat Manchester City last time out but lost to Arsenal and Newcastle in their two previous matches.
Neal Maupay and Tariq Lamptey were among those who started on the bench against City on Saturday.
Potter said his choices for that match were not related to any selection plans he had for the Southampton fixture.
