Graham Potter praised Maty Ryan and his defenders as Albion moved to the brink of safety.
Ryan made a stunning save to preserve the 1-1 draw at Southampton.
And there were also key interventions from Lewis Dunk and Adam Webster.
They were pierced once – by the predatory Danny Ings - to cancel out Neal Maupay’s opener.
Head coach Potter said: “Maty had a difficult evening against Manchester City and was disappointed.
“But I think he showed the quality of person he is in terms of how he responded and how he helped the team.
“Defensively we put our bodies on the line, great blocks, because we needed to.
“Southampton were really good in the second half.
“In the end it is a really good point for us.”
