MATY RYAN 9

Bounced back in style with the highlight-reel touch on to the bar from Vestergaard but also offered good handling and a generally very solid display from the moment he denied Hojbjerg early on.

TARIQ LAMPTEY 6

His toughest night yet at this level. Was tested a couple of times in the first half by Redmond and was at fault on the goal. All part of the process.

ADAM WEBSTER 9

Maybe it was the red and white stripes in front of him, maybe because it was a good old fashioned defensive battle to get his teeth into. But the former Portsmouth man was a giant at the back. Notable moments were a saving tackle and a shot block at close quarters. Is obviously confident and capable on the ball, which is great to see when it goes well and is part of the Potter plan. But, in terms of gutsy defending, this was probably his best game yet for the Seagulls.

How Albion secured precious point at Southampton

LEWIS DUNK 8

His block from Adams was as good as a goal (although the striker should have left him with no chance) and he slid in to deny Ings in the first half amid a lot of good work.

DAN BURN 7

Not as eye-catching as his central colleagues but this was a decent shift with the support of March outside him.

The Argus:

SOLLY MARCH 7

Well, Potter did say he was in the running. There was certainly plenty of ground to cover up and down the left. He kick-started Saints as an attacking force when he misjudged a long diagonal, then kick-started Albion with a run and a part in a big Maupay chance. A good return to the team.

DAVY PROPPER 6

Some good work ahead of the back four in the first half particularly, notably working to pick up pieces and start a counter raid. Was also hesitant on one occasion in his own box. Hastily skied half a chance from the edge of the box.

DALE STEPHENS 7

Back alongside Propper and did a steady job on a night when Albion had less possession than is customary.

LEANDRO TROSSARD 6

Some nice stuff with the ball at times bit not enough of it and found it hard to aid the defensive effort in the second period.

NEAL MAUPAY 8

Played off Murray this time and that was seen to good effect with their link-up which brought the Frenchman a tenth goal of the season. Caused problems in the first half and might have done better with an early chance he put over.

The Argus:

GLENN MURRAY 7

He has the contract signed for next season. The really good news he is one point from securing another trip to St Mary’s! He has loved the place for more than a decade now. This time his telling contribution was clever targetman play for the opening goal.

SUBS

AARON MOOY

Sent on for Murray when the tide had turned and things needed shoring up. He chipped in defensively and also got to the byline on one occasion to set up a rare half-chance.

MARTIN MONTOYA

Sent on at right-back with Lamptey having a tough time.

YVES BISSOUMA

What a chance that was. What a chance! He will know that. That final product is what is missing as he continues to improve and offer great midfield drive and presence.

ALEXIS MAC ALLISTER

A few chances to get on the ball and had to keep his concentration defensively.

PASCAL GROSS

As at Norwich, was sent on late to help secure the result.
