Albion have completed the signing of Wigan teenager Jensen Weir.

The midfielder, 18, arrives on a three-year deal.

The fee, reported as an initial £500,000 by sources in the North West, is helping troubled Wigan pay players’ wages.

Albion have beaten off competition to secure Weir’s services.

Technical director Dan Ashworth said: “Jensen is an exciting young talent and we’re delighted to have brought him to the club, because there was a lot of interest in him.

“He has made a lot of progress at Wigan this season and is a player we have monitored for a while.

“We’re looking forward to working with Jensen, making him an even better player and helping him to really push on with us here at Brighton.”

Weir has played age group football for both Scotland and England.

His father, David, has had a role with Albion since 2018, keeping a close eye on loan players as pathway development manager.
