Albion are planning how to balance youth and experience.

The Seagulls yesterday confirmed the arrival of 18-year-old midfielder Jensen Weir from Wigan on a three-year deal.

Weir is believed to have cost an initial £500,000 and is seen as one of the future.

Potter has brought youngsters Aaron Connolly, Steven Alzate and Tariq Lamptey into his senior team this season.

He has others coming back from impressive loans or graduating from the under-23s and must decide who can play a part in the Premier League squad.

Head coach Potter said: “It is quite a complex process with a lot of loanees and other guys who have shown good qualities as well during this lockdown period.

“We are there, we need to carry on a bit more work but, by the time we are back, we will have everything organised.

“Taylor (Richards), Alex (Cochrane), Teddy (Jenks) and Hayden (Roberts) have done well. We have young guys in the group already.

“It is a young squad. We need to get the balance right. We have got guys returning from good loan spells.”

Weir has played age group international football for both England and Scotland.

His father David has a role with Albion looking after loan players and Weir junior could join their ranks.

Potter said: “He’s got the whole of his future ahead of him. He’s got a good head on his shoulders.

“He has got a good character. He has got qualities on the football pitch. We need to give him the right environment here.”
