The system has faced the wrath of managers, players and fans alike at various stages throughout the season, with many calling for it to be scrapped completely.

So, how would the Premier League table have looked without VAR in place during the 2019/20 campaign?

According to a table put together by the Express, not all that different, although we might have seen a slightly tighter title race without it.

In the relegation battle, Aston Villa, who secured their safety on the final day, may not have gone down to the wire, with the lack of VAR giving them an extra two points and bumping them up to 16th, while Brighton would have found themselves in more danger with five points coming off their tally.
