Albion have had no contact with Chelsea over Lewis Dunk

The Seagulls are in no rush to do business as they assess their array of defensive options.

They have knocked back two bids for Ben White and an enquiry about Shane Duffy.

But they are comfortable with their situation in what has so far been an even quieter transfer window than first expected.

The Argus undertands there has been no contact whatsoever between Chelsea and Albion regarding Dunk, who has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge.

Albion are believed to be bewildered and disappointed by a report to the contrary. 

At the weekend, The Sun reported the club were "closing in on a £40 million deal".

Albion's wealth of defenders was further boosted by the recent addition of Joel Veltman from Ajax as well as the return of White, Matt Clarke and Leo Ostigard from loans.

That could lead to departures on permanent or loan deals but Albion have no pressing need to do such business and will judge each case on its merits.

They rejected two offers for White from Leeds recently but have heard nothing since and have no interest in selling him.

They have fielded interest from one club in Duffy, who has been linked with West Brom, Celtic and his old boss David Moyes at West Ham.

Duffy and Martin Montoya would appear to be the most likely to see opportunities reduced by the arrival of Veltman and late-season progress made by Tariq Lamptey. 

Clarke will attract interest in the loan market, not least from Derby County, where he shone last term.

Albion will also decide the best pathway for young defenders such as Warren O'Hora, Kypras Kazukolovas and Hayden Roberts.

The first post-lockdown transfer window was always expected to be quiet, though not this quiet.

Things should heat up and individual situations could change as the new season draws near.
