Jayson Molumby is all fired up to impress for Albion after making his senior international debut.

The midfielder started for the Republic of Ireland at home to Finland in the UEFA Nations League.

He caught the eye with his energy in the first half but was less of a factor as the game progressed and the Finns secured a 1-0 win.

Molumby has made great strides on loan to Millwall in the highly competitive Championship.

He wants to add more minutes now – and would love it to be with the Seagulls.

The 21-year-old said: “I need to do my part at club level.

“I definitely need to get fitter and I need to get playing at club level to have a chance.

“I'll go back to the club now and get in a few 90 minutes to get my match fitness.

“I want to go back to the gaffer at Brighton. I love Brighton and they've been really good to me so I want to go back and impress him.

"But I need to be playing first team football if I'm going to be in with a shout to play international football. That's my aim, to play first team football.”

Molumby could follow Republic team-mate Aaron Connolly and Steven Alzate in making the breakthrough into Graham Potter’s Premier League plans.

He impressed in 45 minutes during the friendly at home to Chelsea recently but competition for midfield places is intense.

The forthcoming Carabao Cup tie at home to Portsmouth could offer a great chance to shine again at the Amex.

Molumby played the full 90 minutes at the Aviva.

It was his first match since finishing the season with Millwall seven weeks ago and his first complete 90 since a match versus Derby on June 20.

He said: “My family were aware. It was a huge moment for me. I tried not to really think about it, but it will sink in over the next few days now that my I'm away from it.

“It's an unbelievable feeling. It's something I've worked hard for all my life really, so I'm really proud.

“It was difficult. Match fitness is a bit behind and to get 90 minutes is going to do me well going into the season.”
