Crawley captain Tyrone Thompson has urged his team mates to rediscover their early season momentum to avoid being dragged into the wrong end of the table.

Thompson will lead Reds out at York City tomorrow looking to build on last week's comfortable 4-1 victory over strugglers Farsley Celtic.

It ended a run of five games without a win, which had seen Crawley drop into the bottom half of the Conference premier.

Reds were looking like play-off contenders earlier in the season before being hit with a six-point deduction and their dip in form.

Thompson said: "It was very important that we won last week and end that little run we had. Now all the boys are eager to get going again.

"It only takes one win to get back on a run and we showed earlier in the season what we can do once we get going.

"But at the same time it only takes a bad result to go the other way and we can't afford to do that. York are going to be tough and we have to make sure we are on top of our game."

Thompson is a tough-tackling central midfielder by trade but has been asked to play in a wide role in the last two games in place of winger Jamie Cook, who has been sidelined with a hamstring injury.

He admits he has had to learn the new position on the job but is happy to fill in again if required.

Cook trained this week but is only rated 50-50 for the game.

Thompson said: "It is a new position so I'm learning all the time but I'm happy to play wherever the gaffer asks me.

"I've just tried my best in the last couple of games which is what I do every time I play."

York picked up an impressive 2-1 win at Weymouth last week to give caretaker boss Colin Walker the best possible start to his time in charge.

Walker has been handed the reins temporarily following the sacking of Billy McEwan but has been told he could get the job permanently if he gets results.

Assistant boss Paul Raynor is expecting a tough game but says Crawley have done their homework and know what to expect.

He said: "We had someone watching them at Weymouth and they played a new formation with three defenders and five midfielders.

"It gives us a different problem to deal with but we have been working on it in training. We know their strengths and weaknesses so although we know it will be tough, we will go there looking to get a positive result."
