Adam Lallana has been tipped to be a “very powerful” influence in the Albion changing room.

Graham Potter says the former Liverpool midfielder can have - and already has had – an important role on and off the pitch for his new club.

Lallana is preparing for his Premier League debut with the Seagulls as they host Chelsea on Monday.

He does so as a Prem champion with Liverpool and with a wealth of experience behind him with club and country.

Head coach Potter said: “I can speak a lot about what you need to do but we now have someone in our environment who has seen it first-hand and has achieved it.

“That’s very powerful from a leadership perspective and from a culture perspective - how we work every day and how we have to act on the pitch and the training ground.

“There are some little things that can be improved on there and I think Adam brings that.

“He’s a fantastic person and a good team-mate who wants to help the players. He’s not here to just focus on himself.

This is where Potter stands on new signings

“He cares about the team and the players around him. That’s something that’s important for us.

“He also brings quality on the pitch. We’re pleased with him and pleased to have him here and we have to make the most of that and help him enjoy his football.”

Potter said Lallana had already been vocal in the dressing room.

He added: “It’s his personality, character. He likes to help others and wants to improve the team.

“He’s not just doing his job and going home – part of what he likes about being a footballer is being part of a team and helping the team.

“They are really important qualities to have.

“I can understand why he was a young captain and why he was so respected at Liverpool and in the short time we’ve worked with him he’s been fantastic for us.”
