How Albion players rated against Chelsea.

MATY RYAN 7

Left exposed as he conceded a penalty but was comfortable other than that. Made a sharp save at his near post from Werner in first-half added time.

TARIQ LAMPTEY 9

Sensational going forward, resolute and strong defensively and got his head up to cleverly create space for Trossard to fire in his equaliser.

BEN WHITE 7

A knock cut short his Prem debut but he did some good defensive work, notably a vital track back foot in to keep the ball away from Werner on a Chelsea counter raid.

LEWIS DUNK 7

Some good defending but should have scored at 2-1.

ADAM WEBSTER 7

Got stuck in early with a strong tackle and did not deserve that deflection against him for the final goal. His passing ability helped open up spaces for Lamptey on the other side of the park.

The Argus:

SOLLY MARCH 7

Actually, somwhere between a seven and an eight. Amid the rave reviews for Lamptey, it was easy to overlook a very bright display by his left-sided fellow wing-back. Got into some really positions and showed a bit of confidence on occasion in taking players on. There is a place up for grabs there.

YVES BISSOUMA 7

Was confident and competent when receiving the ball deep and played some nice passes out to his widemen when further forward.

ADAM LALLANA 6

Was just starting to have a creative influence when injury struck. A clever pass to send Maupay in behind the defence stands out in the memory.

STEVEN ALZATE 6

That awful moment ahead of the penalty has to be reflected in his final mark. It was a bad mistake, no getting away from that. But the way he responded said a lot about his quality, confidence and faith in what he is doing.

The Argus:

LEANDRO TROSSARD 8

He has the potential to be a star in the Premier League and, ultimately, goals and killer passes will be key in deciding whether that happens. Yes, there were question marks over Kepa. But Trossard's finish was confident, well struck and had a surprise factor which it is easy to forget when watching replays. And what a cross for Dunk’s big chance.

NEAL MAUPAY 6

Buzzed about and got in good positions. The headed chance which came off his shoulder looked ugly but was possibly tougher than it seemed. But his first touch let him down when he should have used Lallana’s pass to put himself through on goal.

SUBS

AARON CONNOLLY 6

Went on late in the first half and had his moments. Was in a good near-post position when March fizzed a cross at him and later saw a shot blocked and another held.

ALIREZA JAHANBAKHSH N/A

No chance to help Albion get back in the contest.

PASCAL GROSS N/A

The game was already slipping irrevocably away when he went on with Jahanbakhsh.
