Albion have lift-off for the new campaign - helped by another cracker from Alireza Jahanbakhsh.

The Iran international fired home in the 4-0 win over Portsmouth in the Carabao Cup.

Alexis Mac allister, Bernardo and Viktor Gyokeres all scored their first senior goals for the club.

Head coach Graham Potter was delighted with his team’s performance after making 11 changes.

And he said Jahanbakhsh is pushing for Premier League action.

Potter said: “I’m really pleased with him. He is pushing.

”Another really good performance, I thought. He influenced the game, played with enthusiasm and quality.

“He was in the squad at the weekend (versus Chelsea on Monday), came on so he is pushing hard.”

Jahanbakhsh also played a clever part in Mac Allister’s headed opener as Albion led 1-0 at the break.

He said: “Day in and day out I work my socks off to get my chances.

“This season is a new season, a new opportunity.
