Worthing manager Adam Hinshelwood felt his side’s margin of victory could have been greater after they won 2-1 away at Folkestone in their opening game of the season.

The Rebels took the lead in the 41st minute, after Marvin Armstrong’s cross was well dummied by Reece Meekums to Ricky Aguilar who smashed the ball home In the second half Ollie Pearce doubled Worthing’s lead, as he headed in Alex Parsons’ corner.

Folkestone did pull a goal back with just over 20 minutes to go through David Smith.

However, Hinshelwood felt the win could have been even bigger.

He said:“I think in the first half it was an open game and it came down to whichever team were take the chances they had.

“It was an excellent bit of individual play form Marvin, who was excellent on the day which set up the opening goal.

“Getting the goal before half-time settled us down, but on an another day we would have liked to make it a bit more emphatic, by taking more of our chances.

“There was lots to be pleased about, but there is still plenty to work and improve on.”

Worthing signed four players on Saturday in Leon Moore, Sam Keefe, Mo Diallo and Shaquille Gwengue after successful trials.

Gwengue started up front and Hinshelwood was impressed with him.

He said: “He did well, but there is still a lot more to come from him.

“Shaq has got a lot of pace and power upfront, but he is only 19.

“He fits the mould of the type of player we are looking to attract to the club, young, hungry and wants to climb up the leagues in order to play at the high level possible.

“It was a good start for him, but there’s still plenty more to come from Shaq in the future and he is one we have got real high hopes for.”

Lewes suffered a 4-1 defeat away to Enfield Town in their opening game.

Aaron Cosgrove scored the Rooks’ only goal of the game, to make it 2-1 before half time.

However, second half goals from Ryan Blackman and Lyle Della-Verde wrapped up the points for Enfield.

Bognor kicked off their season with a point, as they drew 2-2 away at Bishop’s Stortford.

The Rocks had gone 2-0 up through Tommy Leigh and Jordy Mongoy, before two penalties in the last ten minutes from Tom Richardson got the hosts level.

Bognor played the last five minutes of the game with ten men, after Jordan Cook was given a second yellow.

Horsham also began their season with a point, after they drew 1-1 away at Leatherhead.

The Hornets did not make the best start conceding in the first minute, to Misha Djemaili.

However, with nine minutes to go Jack Brivio scored the equaliser.
