Albion want to keep the feelgood factor going – and that would mean breaking the club’s worst awayday hoodoo.

They are set to make wholesale changes for their Carabao Cup tie versus Preston at Deepdale, where the club have played 16 times in their history and never won.

That makes it the venue they have visited most often without a single victory to their name, ahead of Villa Park (12 times) and Old Trafford (11).

Potter believes the 4-0 win over Portsmouth last week played a part in the impressive display by an all-changed team at Newcastle on Sunday.

A repeat would be welcome ahead of the league game at home to Manchester United on Saturday.

Potter said: “The week we had was a major factor in the performance against Newcastle.

Prize could be a double bill versus Manchester United

“We reacted well from Chelsea, we recognised what we did well and where we needed to improve. The guys that had been playing in that game trained really well.

“The lads played and they played well but there was a nice feeling within the group that people are pushing each other in a good way.

“Friendly and healthy competition and it sets up the game against Newcastle.”

Preston won at Derby to reach this stage.

Potter said: “We want to go to Preston and play well.

“With the greatest respect to Portsmouth it’s another step up because Preston are in the Championship.

“I know Alex Neil’s teams well. They are organised and tactically very strong, experienced and they play good football. Fast, aggressive football.

“It’s another step up but that’s great that what you expect from a competition where you can progress.”

Preston defender Paul Huntington misses the tie through suspension.
