Player ratings from Albion's win at Preston.

Jason Steele 7

Was not exactly bombarded by shots but he got down very sharply to his left to make a fine save as the highlight of a confident, vocal and authoritative display.

Joel Veltman 7

Solid and secure on the right of a four as he settles into English football. So comfortable on the ball.

The Argus:

Dan Burn 7

An interesting switch as he played as right-sided centre-back in a four. Helped Albion weather some early pressure and enjoyed spreading the play when he got on the ball.

Haydon Roberts 7

Looked at home defending and on the ball. It says a lot that his one misdirected header stood out but he made an impressive clearance soon after.

Bernardo 7

Became an increasing threat galloping forward as the game wore on and went close himself before playing a sort in the opener.

Davy Propper 7

More game time - but what that means regarding the league game on Saturday remains to be seen. His passing was mixed.

Max Sanders 8

A very impressive first senior start for Albion as he built on his year in League One. Made himself available and passed the ball tidily.

Alireza Jahanbakhsh 8

Is clearly playing with confidence. That was visible even before he added another super finish to the collection to give Albion a lead they never looked like losing.

Alexis Mac Allister 7

Again showed he can arrive at the right time and at pace in the heart of the penalty area to finish.

Pascal Gross 8

Lots of inventive work against defenders not alive to his trademark Cruyff turn. Very clever as he teed up Mac Allister for the second goal.

Viktor Gyokeres 7

Offered a decent target up front and was strong against physical opponents. Almost capped his performance with an explosive finish.
