Albion defender Fliss Gibbons believes they have nothing to lose against the so-called bigger sides in the WSL.

The Seagulls take on Arsenal tomorrow afternoon (12.30pm, BBC Red Button) in what has been a tough start to the season.

It is the third of last season’s top four that Albion have taken on so far this season, having already drawn 0-0 with Manchester City last month and been beaten 3-0 by Manchester United last Sunday.

However, Gibbons believes that Albion are benefitting from their tough start to the season.

She said: “We have had a few discussions about the bigger teams and we have the same mindset whether we face them at the beginning, middle or end of the season.

“That actually we are going to go into those games with absolutely nothing to lose and we really want to come out of them proving that we can compete with those teams.

“So perhaps it helps us to set good habits and set the standard.

“The intensity of those games is probably higher than some of the others, so it helps us to start strongly in our performances, which we showed against Man City.

“We will look to learn from those games as we move through the season.”

Arsenal have been potent so far in the WSL, they sit top of the league having won their opening three games and in the process, have scored 18 goals.

So just how do Albion go about stopping them?

Gibbons said: “We take a lot of pride in being a well-drilled and well-organised team.

“As a team, we have done a lot of work on and off the training pitch this week, as to how we can stop their obvious threats.

“But they have a team of world-class players, which can be incredibly difficult to keep at bay.

“However, we have shown we can do at Man City, they had a host of internationals on the pitch as well.

“So we have shown we can do it, so we will take confidence from that game going into this one and hopefully we can get something out of it.”
