Republic of Ireland bosses are hoping Aaron Connolly might rejoin them this week after all.

The Albion striker is in the clear after the Irish FA staff member he sat near on a flight to Bratislava was found NOT to be Covid-positive after all.

Connolly returned to England atter his late withdrawal from the Euro 2020 qualifier against Slovakia.

He was absent for the 0-0 draw with Wales in the Nations League yesterday, after which the Republic revealed hope of bringing him into their depleted squad to face Finland in Helsinki on Wednesday.

Norwich striker Adam Idah, who also returned home last week in similar circumstances to Connolly, has now returned to the Irish squad.

But even Irish reports concede Albion might not have been impressed by the chaos of the last few days.

Connolly’s situation is complicated by the fact he had a minor injury even when he joined up with the national squad after Albion’s defeat at Everton.

The Seagulls will be keen to have Connolly fit and available for their Premier League trip to Crystal Palace on Sunday.
