Steven Alzate and his Colombia colleagues have been given a euphoric welcome to Chile.

The Albion man gave a wave to cheering hordes as he and colleagues made their way from the team hotel in Santiago.

Alzate is expected to be on the bench for Colombia as they play the second match of their 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign.

The Argus:

The fixture has been moved back from its planned start time and will now kick off at 1.30am, BST.

Alzate will then make the long trip back in time to prepare for Albion’s game at Crystal Palace on Sunday.

He went on for the final 20 minutes in place of James Rodriguez as Colombia beat Venezuela 3-0 at the weekend.

Alexis Mac Allister, meanwhile, will be on the bench at best for Argentina as they play Bolivia at altitude in La Paz (9pm BST).

He was not part of the matchday squad which beat Ecuador 1-0 in round one.
