Republic of Ireland manager Stephen Kenny has praised Albion and their head-coach Graham Potter for how brilliant they have been in letting Aaron Connolly rejoin the squad.

Connolly returned to Kenny’s squad yesterday along with Norwich striker Adam Idah, after the staff member they were found to be sitting too close to on their flight to Bratislava last week, was given a false positive coronavirus test.

Ireland prepare to take on Finland in the Nations League tomorrow night (5pm), but Kenny admitted Albion have been brilliant with the Connolly situation.

He said: “Brighton have been fantastic.

“I think the manager Graham Potter is a brilliant football man.

"And he understands we have two young players here in Aaron and Jayson (Molumby), who came from Ireland to Brighton’s youth academy and are now playing in their first team.

“He also understands the importance of playing for your national team and he has been brilliant really.”

Connolly will be hoping he can help Ireland end their recent goal drought.

Kenny's side have failed to score in their last three matches.

In their last two games, Ireland have played with a lone striker.

However, Kenny has not ruled out changing the system against Finland.

He said: “Two upfront is a possibility for us.

"And certainly Aaron has that versatility that he can that he can play in different positions and we are not afraid of playing just one system.”
