Leandro Trossard has extra incentive to shine with Albion this season.

The Belgium international is off to a bright start in the Premier League.

He started for his national team last night as they won 2-1 in Iceland in the Nations League in the absence of several senior players.

Attention for Trossard now turns to the league contest at Crystal Palace on Sunday.

He admits he has been labelled by some fans as the man who always turns up for national squads but never plays.

But a good season with the Seagulls will make it hard for him to be left out completely in the delayed finals next summer.

Trossard was asked by Sport Magazine in Belgium whether he would be content with a squad place in the delayed Euros next summer even if he was not going to play.

He said: “It depends on whether the season went well or not. It's nice to be able to experience a European Championship or a World Cup from the inside.

“But, if I am coming off a brilliant season, I would feel entitled to a few minutes of play, even if it is as a substitute.

“In this case, you at least have the feeling that you participated.

“I don't want to be a ‘fifth wheel of the cart’.

“But, if you ask me what my wish is, I want to be present at the Euros at all costs.”

Trossard believes he made a strong case to Belgium boss Roberto Martinez with his performances last term after joining Albion from Genk.

He said: “I showed what I can do in the Premier League and Martinez saw that I was doing well. My versatility is an asset.”
