Graham Potter has warned against putting too much pressure on Danny Welbeck.

But he says the former England striker will offer Albion something new in attack.

Welbeck’s arrival on a one-year deal was announced shortly before yesterday’s 1-1 draw at Crystal Palace.

Albion, hindered by a controversial early penalty awarded against them, failed to make full use of copious amounts of possession at Selhurst Park.

Alexis Mac Allister scored late to save a point but it was an afternoon to underline why Albion had moved into the free agent market for Welbeck, 29.

Head coach Potter said: “It’s a bit unfair to expect one individual to solve all our problems.

“We have actually done quite a lot well. We have created some chances, we have scored goals.

“It’s up to the team to score goals and it’s up to the team to keep balls out of the net.

“Danny brings his own qualities, that I don’t think we have got.

“He is a big, tall, running forward that wants to run towards goal, which is a little bit different to the attributes we have got in the group.

“As a character and a person he is a top guy who wants to play in the Premier League and wants to help us in our journey going forward.”
