Danny Welbeck joined Albion on Sunday, but just what can fans expect from him?

The 29-year-old striker signed a one-year deal with the Seagulls and will be available to head coach Graham Potter as they host West Bromwich Albion on Monday (5:30pm, Sky Box Office).

Welbeck was at Championship side Watford until the start of the month when his contract was mutually terminated.

During his career, Welbeck has made 224 appearances in the Premier League for Watford, Arsenal and Manchester United, scoring 44 goals and getting 27 assists.

He comes in to add experience to Albion’s attacking options with Glenn Murray having gone on a season-long loan to Watford.

It’s not just Premier League experience that Welbeck will provide as he also has plenty of European and international experience.

He played in the Champions League during his time at Arsenal and United.

Welbeck has been capped by England 42 times, scoring 16 goals.

To find out what Albion fans can expect from Welbeck we spoke to Ryan Gray, who covers The Hornets for the Watford Observer.

And he revealed what Welbeck will bring to Albion.

He said: “He’s a hard-working and experienced professional, who still has an eye for goal.

“However, he does struggle to keep his fitness, so it could be difficult for him to get a run of games.

Welbeck has had numerous injuries which have severely hampered his game time.

However, despite only playing 18 games in the Premier League last season he scored two goals and got one assist.

One of those goals was the stunning overhead kick he scored in Watford’s 2-1 win over Norwich at Vicarage Road.

And Gray says if Albion can keep him fit, then Welbeck could prove to be a shrewd signing.

He said: “He’s still a very good striker and he scored an impressive bicycle kick towards the end of last season.

“Managing his fitness is the main problem, but if Brighton can get a handle on that, he could be a great asset.”

Albion have already shown they are willing to take a risk bringing in players who have had injury problems.

For example, Adam Lallana was brought in over the summer on a free transfer from Liverpool, despite the problems he had with injury during his time at Anfield.

Since joining Albion have had to manage Lallana’s game time, but he is slowly starting to show why they took the gamble.

So, it is no surprise that they have decided to take a gamble on Welbeck.

Many people were unsure whether Welbeck would get a move back to the Premier League after Watford were relegated.

However, Gray was not shocked to see him back in the top flight.

He said: “I’m not surprised, he’s still a quality player and if he can get some consistency he could be very useful.”
