SOUTHEND United manager Mark Molesley insists he will continue to ‘fight hard every day’ in a bid to improve the Shrimpers’ wretched start to the season.

Blues’ 3-0 defeat at Salford City on Tuesday night means Molesley’s side have now failed to win their opening 10 games of the campaign.

But Molesley remains determined to turn things around.

“We didn’t come into this job thinking it was going to be easy and I won’t be giving up,” said the 39-year-old.

“I’ll be fighting hard every day and we know we can turn it around.

“We look forward to doing that sooner rather than later too.”

Blues sit bottom of the table with just two points from seven games.

But Molesley is already focusing on Saturday’s trip to Tranmere Rovers.

“Games are coming thick and fast so there will be a quick chance to react and get it right,” said Molesley.

“We will doing all we can too.

“The players are hurting and we’ve got to dig deep.

“We’ve got to be brave, show some courage and come out fighting.”

But Molesley conceded it was a tough time for Blues.

“Football is a cruel game sometimes,” said the former Weymouth boss.

“When you’re up against it you feel it’s stacked against but you have to be clear headed and keep believing in your values and morals.

“You keep believing that your hard work will come through in the end so we will rally round each other, pick each other up and keep driving each other on.”

But Blues will again be looking to bounce back from another defeat after failing to impress against Salford.

“It’s another difficult night for us but football is about lots of moments,” said Molesley.

“We had some good moments but the not so good moments have cost us dearly again.

“There was more intent about our performance and the boys have worked really hard again.

“But at key times we got a bit sloppy and given away some soft goals from our point of view.

“We did move the ball very well at times tonight but we just lacked that final pass or finish.

“We will continue to work hard and I look forward to doing these interviews when we’ve seen the fruits of our work.”
