SOUTHEND United manager Mark Molesley felt the Shrimpers could have been awarded two penalties during tonight’s defeat at Salford City.

Referee Carl Boyeson opted to wave the appeals after both Brandon Goodship and James Olayinka went to ground in the box.

And Molesley was disappointed not to see them given.

“We had two big penalty decisions not go for us” said Molesley.

“I thought Brandon showed him a clean pair of heels and he’s nudged him as he’s about to finish.

“I asked the referee and he said there was contact but that it was minimal.

“It was a shame because Brandon would’ve been one on one with the keeper which he’s pretty good at.

“James Olayinka got past his man as well but that one was a little bit further away for me to see.

“One soft one went against us on Saturday too.”

But Molesley will not use the decisions going against the Shrimpers as an excuse.

“We can’t hide behind it,” said Molesley.

“We need to get better and we need to get better quickly.

“We may not quite be getting the decisions at the moment but we can’t feel sorry for ourselves.

“We have to keep battling and keep working.”
