Ben White looks set to return to defence when West Brom visit the Amex on Monday – for two good reasons.

Albion will be without Lewis Dunk for the next three fixtures after his red card at Crystal Palace.

At the same time, Steven Alzate has now recovered from his tiring trip to Colombia and Chile on international duty.

His fatigue was part of the reason he was left on the bench at Selhurst Park.

Equally, Graham Potter might look to play Adam Lallana in a midfield engine-room type role, as he did so well in the most recent home league game versus Manchester United when Yves Bissouma was absent.

That would allow Lallana to play in support of three attacking players in, most probably, Aaron Connolly, Leandro Trossard and Neal Maupay.

The expectation would be for Danny Welbeck to be on the bench at best.

It is sometimes easy to forget White’s Premier League career currently comprises just five matches.

Potter is well aware of that but is pleased with his progress.

The Albion boss said: “He had a wonderful year with Leeds, played in a successful Championship team, and he is adapting to life in a different team in a different league.

“It’s another step up in terms of the opposition he faces every week, with the greatest respect to the Championship.

“The style of football is different, as you would expect. Every team is different, so it was always going to be a case that he would have to adapt to that and that is where he has been.

“On another day he could have got that foul against Everton (when Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored the opening goal). That’s life sometimes.

“We believe in him. He has got a fantastic future and we need to help him adapt to the league, adapt to us and enjoy his football.”
