Shane Duffy has received criticism for his performance after Celtic were beaten 3-1 by AC Milan in the Europa League group stages last night.

Duffy, who is on a season-long loan at the Hoops from Albion, was targeted by BT Sport Pundits Martin Keown and Glenn Hoddle.

Former Arsenal defender Keown was critical of the 28-year-old’s role in Milan’s first two goals.

He said: “That ball into the box [for the first goal] should have been attacked better, there’s no doubt.

“Here [the second goal] the defending’s really poor. They’ve got to get tighter, Duffy is standing off too much and they get in each other’s way.

“Okay, it’s gone through the player’s legs but Diaz is putting that away in far too much space. It’s [Theo] Hernandez running from deep - he’s the full-back.

“The amount of space he had, I just felt they let themselves down defensively.

"But they changed it at half-time and the second half performance was a whole lot better.”

Hoddle however, eluded to the fact that Duffy had not played much for Albion before joining Celtic and felt that played a big part.

He said: “This is poor defending again one vs one.

"I think Duffy’s been out and hasn’t played a lot of football and he looked tired at the end, he just can’t get his hips around quick enough.”
