To get the lowdown on the Seagulls opponents, West Bromwich Albion, I spoke to Joseph Chapman, who covers the Baggies for Birmingham Live:

What have you made of their start to the season?

It’s been difficult. They’re still awaiting their first win, though there have been glimpses that they have the tools to cut it at this level.

The quality of the opponent has not helped matters; they’ve already played Everton, Leicester and Chelsea, but they were far too easily turned over at Southampton.

The introduction of Branislav Ivanovic and the inspired form of Sam Johnstone earned them their first clean sheet against Burnley last time out. That should give everyone, in a defensive capacity, a boost when it comes to setting up away from home at Brighton.

What have you made of the job Slaven Bilic has done?

He has a promotion on his CV so he’s one from one in that respect. Keeping the club in the division would be a bigger achievement.

Bilic hit the ground running last season. The new manager bounce carried through until Christmas, by which time they’d only lost one league game.

They improved after a January blip and laid most of the groundwork for promotion, which granted them another stumble after the lockdown which went unpunished.

Bilic has done a very good job because, while it was the aim, I had reservations last summer as to whether the club was equipped enough to secure promotion after losing in the playoffs the year before.

Who will be the player that Brighton will need to keep a close eye on?

Matheus Pereira stood out for me in the pre-season friendly at the Amex. He hit the post and he looked Albion’s main threat.

Karlan Grant and Grady Diangana are the other obvious threats, but in Pereira they’ve got a genuine star. His passing is, usually sublime and he’s found his feet fairly quickly at this level.

The Argus:

What do you think the score will be?

Grant will be key as once they get him firing, they’ hae got a chance of survival. He needs to be their Neal Maupay. I’ll go for a mildly entertaining 1-1.
