Albion will see this is a good opportunity missed.

Actually, that goes for both teams of that name.

In the end, a 1-1 draw was underwhelming for the Seagulls, probably encouraging for the Baggies.

The hosts established a strong position from which to go on and secure a first home win of the season here against West Brom this evening.

They went ahead with a goal which had good fortune to it in how the ball eventually found the net but was deserved on the way they were playing.

Once Grady Diangana had spared them early embarrassment by taking the scenic route to goal, the Seagulls took charge and, notably through Neal Maupay, should have struck before their OG bonus.

But West Brom may well feel they should have been the team who took three points for their second half efforts.

They were certainly the team pushing for the win in the final stages.

The goal which secured their point bore a little resemblance to that with which their neighbours Aston Villa grabbed a precious draw point here last term.

A long ball in from the right and a powerful finish amid the defensive wreckage.

Of course the various heavy defeats to the big guns are hard to watch at times.

But games like that 1-1 versus Villa or disappointments against Watford or Palace were the occasions which undermined the Seagulls last term.

This felt similar. What will concern Albion fans was how disjointed their team became in the second half.

Never really got going in the second period, never really got a grip of possession.

In the end, it’s a point. A first home reward of the season.

But it felt underwhelming on an evening it was hoped would see them make up for lost ground in other games.
