Adam Webster has been told the Albion captaincy can help him grow as a player.

The centre-back has taken over the armband during Lewis Dunk’s three-match ban.

Webster is expected to again lead the side tomorrow at Tottenham, where he scored in Dunk’s absence through illness last season.

Asked whether he would benefit from the experience, head coach Graham Potter said: “That’s the hope of course. I think generally people, if they are the right character, respond to increased responsibility.

“I think Adam has the interpersonal skills and the intrapersonal skills to be a leader, to lead people.

“We had other options, of course, but just for the fact of Adam being with us pretty much since we’ve been here and he understands what we are trying to do, he was one of the choices.

“But we could have chosen another few as well, in fairness.”
