Graham Potter hopes football can give the nation a lift during a second lockdown.

The Premier League is set to continue as increased anti-Covid measures revealed today come into force.

That is in contrast to the initial lockdown from March, which saw action held up for 15 weeks amid doubts over whether the 2019-20 season would even be completed.

Potter was asked about the potential impact of a new lockdown BEFORE today’s announcement from Boris Johnson.

He said he was speaking as a family man as well as Albion head coach as he expressed confidence the nation should be able to handle lockdown better second time around.

Potter said: “I’m no expert. I can only think back to the last lockdown and the feelings that were there at that point.

“It was new and maybe this second lockdown won’t be quite as traumatic as the last one.

“We have a better understanding of what the virus is. There was a lot of fear for the previous one.

“Of course, that was understandably so, because it was a completely new thing.

“But we’ve had it before and, whether we can manage the two and we can stay in our bubble now and be providing that normality football can give and be a distraction from this terrible thing, that’s, thankfully, nothing for me to think about.

“But, as a father and husband, I don’t think there will be the same level of fear and anxiety as before.”
