Former Sussex batsman Luke Wells has signed a two-year deal at Lancashire.

He was released by the Sharks in September, after a decade of first-team service and having not played a single match in the shortened 2020 campaign.

With 141 first-class matches, almost 8,000 runs and 18 centuries to his name, he was always likely to attract interest elsewhere and he has chosen to move to Emirates Old Trafford.

Wells will have an immediate chance to show his former club what they are missing, with the Red Rose drawn in the same group as Sussex in next year's County Championship.

He said: "I am proud to have signed with one of the biggest counties in English domestic cricket.

"This is a great opportunity to show what I can do and I'm hugely excited about the prospect of calling Emirates Old Trafford, one of the best grounds in the world, my home for the next few years.

"This is the start of an exciting new chapter in my career and I can't wait to pull on the Red Rose next summer."
