Alexis Mac Allister has explained how Albion have got him in the best shape of his life.

The Argentina international has even told fans back home how much body fat he has lost due to full-on training sessions.

And he has revealed the breakfast which fuels him for the most intense training sessions he has ever faced.

Mac Allister hopes to start increasing his Premier League minutes and would love that to help him regain his place in the national team squad.

He has been supporting Leo Messi and company from afar during the current international break after being left out.

Mac Allister told listeners to Radio Colonia how coming to England has changed his footballing life.

He said: “The biggest difference between here and Argentina is in the training.

“When I was there (in Argentina), I had no idea of how important it was to work on the strength in your legs.

“In the English league, the physical aspect is important. You always have to be at 100%.

“Training sessions are short but very intense.

“When I got here, I realised the physical condition I had wouldn’t be enough to allow me to play here.

“I always ate normally and looked after myself but here it is another level physically, football-wise and tactically.

“It’s a very tough league and I love the way we train.

“We have a day off in the middle of the week and that doesn’t happen anywhere else in the world.

“They have the concept of not training too much but, when you do, it’s full-on.”

Mac Allister starred for Argentinos Juniors and then played at the very top of the Argentinian game with Boca Juniors.

His observations about training levels are likely to have raised eyebrows back in Buenos Aires.

His brother Francis, who is a top-flight player in Argentina, recently told The Argus Alexis looked a different player after his first few months in England.

In his interview with Radio Colonia, Alexis said: “Since I’ve been here, I’ve lost 14mm of fat.

“What dominates here is a good breakfast. I have toast with smoked salmon and a poached egg.”

Mac Allister also confirmed he sees the No.10 berth as his favoured role.

He added: “With the club, I play in a position where I start on the left but they always want me to be drifting into the middle, to have the ball and always be involved.

“It’s a position in which I feel comfortable but I have always said I like playing in the middle, behind the No.9, although wherever they put me, I’ll always try and do it well.”
