Albion are ready to reinforce their call for a fair deal for football when lockdown is eased.

Premier League clubs hope for the government’s green light to start bringing fans back.

They are preparing to reiterate their plea to be dealt with on a par with other areas of the entertainment business.

The Seagulls could also repeat their indoor screening of an away game when possible, which was successful during the recent fixture at Tottenham.

Plans are still taking shape behind the scenes to be ready for when lockdown – due to run until December 2 – is relaxed.

Albion chief executive and deputy chairman Paul Barber said: “We are not trying to be irresponsible or tone deaf to the challenges the government are facing.

“Our message is that, when the government gives the green light for the entertainment industry to restart, we want to be treated like the Royal Albert Hall, the Royal Opera House and others and for football not to be left behind again, which we felt was happening before the second lockdown started.

“We felt certain parts of the entertainment industry were getting a green light.

“But, for reasons we still don’t understand, football was stuck on a red light.

“Clearly we want to make sure the government doesn’t do that again.”

Barber said the event at the Amex during the Tottenham game was “really successful”.

He added: “We had 150 people in which was the maximum number we could have in that particular lounge.

“We could have sold out several times over but we did my want to push too hard too soon.

“Again, we could reasonably hold an event safely for a decent number of people.

“We also wanted to highlight the slightly bizarre situation where we could have 150 people sitting in a bar looking at a big screen but we couldn’t have even 150 people outside watching the game live.

“We are trying to strike a balance between being sensible, reasonable and respectful but, at the same time, doing as much as we can to push for the right to protect our own business.”

Albion fan, and well known football finance podcaster, Kieran Maguire was among those to attend the Tottenham event.

He said: “It went extremely well. All the staff were superb, professional, knowledgeable, friendly and organised in terms of advising and applying protocols, serving food and drink, etc.

“It felt safe as plenty of spacing between tables.

“When we scored the equaliser everyone did have a collective scream of delight as you would expect. Just a shame we ended up losing.

“The club organisation could not have been any better.”
